Venue & Travel

The workshop will take place at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria (IFCA) in Santander (Google Maps). The institute is within easy reach (either on foot or by bus) of downtown Santander and the Sardinero beach area. Good local hotels include Hotel Santemar and Hotel Las Brisas. If you’re planning to book a hotel for your stay, please let us know – we may be able to negotiate a better rate for a large number of bookings.

By airplane

The Santander airport is Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport (SDR), also known as Parayas airport​, is located in Maliaño (Camargo), five kilometres outside the city. There is a shuttle service from the airport to the Bus Station in Santander (Information of Airport-Bus Station service). Taxis (Information of taxi tariffs) and car hire are availables. The Bilbao Airport, Bilbao Airport (BIO), is 109 Km far from Santander and has a wide range of daily conections ​with Spanish, European cities and the rest of the world. Driving from the A8 highway takes about an hour and a quarter (See map​).It can also be reached by public transport, combining two bus lines: “Shuttle service from airport to Bus Station in Bilbao” and  “ALSA bus route from Santander to Bilbao​“. See more information at Bilbao airport portal information and ​Bilbao Bus Station (Temibus).

By train

The RENFE and FEVE train stations are in downtown Santander, in the Plaza de las Estaciones (See map)​. The IFCA can be reached by taxi or by city bus. Information of regional, national and international destinations, tariffs and timetable in the RENFE website. ​​​

By intercity bus

The Central Bus Station is in downtown Santander, near Plaza de las Estaciones, in the Navas de Tolosa street (See map). The IFCA can be reached by taxi or by city bus. Information of ALSA passenger transport company, autobus service to the airports, national and international routes.​

By urban bus

For some reason, google doesn’t provide good transport information for Santander, so we recommend using Moovit.

By bicycle
